This is just a quick short post to add something that people may not have stumbled across previously but might find useful. Since it is NAIDOC week this seems appropriate to share. Did you know there is a Welcome to Country App available? As you travel, the app uses GPS to update you, on whose country you are on, and gives you a short, video Welcome to country, including basic cultural protocols that are tribal boundary geo-specific. The video is normally delivered by a local elder. While the App does not include video from every tribal group, it has tried to give as much coverage as possible and I suspect it is an app which can only develop further. At the moment the app is only available for iPhone, as an android user I was a little disappointed in that, but G uses apple so we downloaded it to his phone. Information on the The Welcome to Country app can be found here: https://www.welcometocountry.mobi/ and the app can be downloaded from the apple app store. While it is obviously no substitute for an official Welcome to country, nor is it intended to be used as such, it is a great addition to the Australian travel experience and I am sure it will contribute to broadening knowledge and respect.
