I have been significantly missing in action of late, feeling kind of wiped out, in a bit of a desperate need of a recharge. Really need some quiet time in isolation to re-charge a bit, slow my brain down and just chill. In the meantime I find myself yet again disturbed by our headlong rush to destruction with the continued push on fossil fuels. In light of the recent announcement about a new gas powered power plant in the Hunter Valley I just thought I would share this meme:
And if you would like to read about the new gas power plant here is the ABC story: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-18/federal-government-commits-600m-for-kurri-kurri-gas-plant/100147956
But what really horrifies me is where that gas may come from and the very real threat its extraction presents to our extremely fragile environment. Australia is a desert country that is blessed with an amazing artesian water source but that invaluable resource, which in our dry lands is absolutely crucial to our survival, our ability to feed ourselves and other nations, is threatened by FRACKING! Greed, vested interests and short term gain should be no excuse to risk this asset and yet that is what is happening. For the curious you can read about the potential fracking in the channel country here: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/may/20/the-living-heart-of-australia-fracking-plans-threaten-fragile-channel-country
Gas may be cleaner than coal but it is still a fossil fuel. Nor is it cost effective. It is more than time we started caring about more than just short term gain. Greed will be the death of us and this planet . We need to start caring. Hold politicians to account. It is our job to care for the lands on which we live not to extract and exploit until nothing is left but a barren hell of our own making.
Not sure what I intended to blog about when I opened the blog tonight, but at least I have broken the blogging drought.
