Augathella = meat ants and Smiley

Slowly catching up on posts. After Charleville we started the trek north, stopping briefly in Augathella. The two things Augathella is famous for are meat ants and the Smiley stories. To be honest I was unaware of the Smiley connection although I certainly remember seeing the old movies; Smiley and Smiley gets a gun. The … Continue reading Augathella = meat ants and Smiley

The Art of Lightning Ridge

Renowned artist John Murray calls Lightning Ridge home and you can't escape his impact on the town. Depending on which way you approach the ridge you might be greeted by a giant emu, Stanley made from old girders, Volkswagens and satellite dishes, or on Morilla St an old combi given wings and a propeller, flown … Continue reading The Art of Lightning Ridge

Childers’ Charm

S and I visited Childers. This is a town of memories for S, some good and some not so. The town itself has been a cane growing town for many decades and goes all the way back to the beginning of cane farming. These days it still supports the cane industry as well as the … Continue reading Childers’ Charm

This old town

pixabay image public domain Just thought I would share some of Bronte's wonderful photos via Instagram, we walk the same streets but she has a way of making me see my most immediate world afresh. Check out her Insta, it is worth a look; https://www.instagram.com/rosalind_bella2/ I am envious of her ability to capture moments and … Continue reading This old town

Toowoomba street art scene.

Street art has been a rising phenomena around Australia over the last few years, what started out as hip and urban has spread to the country, some of the best pieces you will ever see can be found in quite, rural locations. Toowoomba has welcomed and nurtured the street art scene, hosting several rounds of … Continue reading Toowoomba street art scene.

I have hardly read a thing these last few months. But one thing I have read and thoroughly enjoyed is Sally Jane Smith's delightful travel memoir Unpacking for Greece . Sally ( @journeysinpages )has awoken my own gypsy soul and made me crave the adventure of travel again and while I might be stuck in one place at the moment, at least I have had the wonderful voyeuristic pleasure of accompanying Sally through those ancient lands and sharing the challenges, fears and joys. A great arm chair travel experience. #Travel #BooksAndTea #Books #Bookstagram
Nearly stepped on this beauty on my way into work this afternoon. At a guess he is a white stemmed gum moth but that is only a guess so if know what he is let me know. Quite large, just wider than a hand width at a guess and rather lovely. #moth #Nature
First bush walk in months. Took the hounds on a walk along the old Munro tramway. I have really needed these brief escapes but all my energy for months has just been going into meeting the everyday demands of life. Really really need to make more time this. #munrotramway #BushWalk
I have not been posting of late but today is National Sorry Day and the recent relentless attacks on one of our most accomplished and celebrated journalists made me feel that today and what it stands for should not go without a post. So in honour of reconciliation I am posting a short stack of some of Stan Grant's rich and remarkable books. Talking to my Country really is a book every Australian should read!
Been in a bit of a rut lately, not really reading much just dipping into the occasional essay. Always take a book everywhere even to Saturday breakfast. Wendell Berry always makes for good company whether it is his essays or the poetry. A writer I can highly reccomend, clarity combined with brevity and beauty. This was actually last weekend breakfast at the Revised cafe at Wyalla plaza, another favourite for weekend breakfast with the hounds, I get an excellent wrap and order extra sausage for the girls. Ada has excellent cafe manners and loves this weekend ritual she knows she will also be getting something special, can't really see Ada in this one but trust me she and Cass are under the table patiently waiting for their breakfast treat.
So Ada does not really like to swim, but Cassie who has gigantic webbed paws loves the water. Cas has no interest in chasing balls whatsoever but she will go out and bring back a ball in the sea for Ada. They can be a frightening team and believe me, they are a team.#RescueDogs #RescueDogsofInstagram #DogsOfInstagram #Dogs #BeachDog
