River Birdlife

Just a few pictures of birds on the lake at Country Style Caravan Park. Not a bird but this was from one and a half meters and was the size of my thumb.

Silvereyes in the backyard

Being stuck at home I only have the local wildlife to appreciate. I have been watching a small group of Silvereyes, up to five individual birds, visit the elderberry bush in our backyard. They seem quite fond of the little black berries. All parts of the elderberry is supposed to contain cyanide-inducing glycosides? I wonder … Continue reading Silvereyes in the backyard

Afraid the #NatureSpotChallenge kind of got away from me but I did try to find time, I had a go at capturing the colour of the trunk on the lemon scented gum. There are some beautiful specimens on campus also picked up some of the lovely lemony leaves and tried to record the pinky Brown of the old leaves. I have learnt a couple of things: 1 don't overestimate what I can achieve on work days. 2 watercolour in nature journaling is not something to be afraid of and is FUN. 3 taking the time to really see colour and then playing around with mixing colour to do a spot is really relaxing, achievable and a great learning experience.
Coffee and a good book and what a book! Got this one for G but I have absolutely devoured it. We are both fans of the magnificent Terry Pratchett and this biog by Sir Terry's PA Rob Wilkins is a truly fitting and honest portrait of a man whose writing defined much of our lives. I loved reading about Pratchett's work habits, just a little writing discipline can go a long way. Surely no contemporary author is more missed than the wonderful, witty, wise Sir Terry Pratchett and this biography is a great read in it's own right, highly recommend. #BooksAndCoffee #Books #Bookstagram #TerryPratchett #Discworld #Biography
Escaped briefly to Stanthorpe just for an overnight camp just desperately needed some tree time. Too much people this past week. Nothing beats watching the ducks while cooking dinner on an open fire. Now plan to be offline for the rest of the weekend. #GraniteBelt #Stanthorpe #Nature #Camping #Sunset
My current reads: #Soundings journeys in the company of whales and a re-read Charlotte McConaghy The last Migration also published as Migrations. Reading Migrations for @oceanxbluess #RewildYourShelf nature themed book group. Really enjoyed #Migrations first time round, this time I found the audio book via the library so doing a mix of reading and listening. Soundings is adventure nature memoir, so far a good read, but more first person memoir than natural history. #NatureWriting #NatureReading #Migrations #EcoFiction #CliFi #Books #Bookstagram
A bit behind on #NatureSpotChallenge with@sideoats this is yesterday's spot. Had coffee in the Japanese gardens before work in the company of some muddy resident eastern long neck turtles. Hoping to get some time nature journaling with the turtles next week. Enjoying learning about watercolor so much I splurged and bought myself a little nature palette tin. #NatureSpot #HavingAGo #NatureJournaling #EasternLongNeckTurtle
Ok so not great at this whole watercolor thing but #HavingAGo borrowed some of Bronte's watercolours to play for the #NatureSpotChallenge with @sideoats The only nature I got today was watching the clouds over Horn park while walking the dogs, love the clouds when they look bruised and promising rain. #NatureSpot #NatureJournaling
