Petals and Pups for Carnival of Flowers

Well it might be a rather quieter affair this year for Carnival of Flowers with the Queensland borders closed again but if you are able to travel to Toowoomba for one of its premier tourism events this might be of interest. The carnival of flowers is a big draw card for Toowoomba tourism and this … Continue reading Petals and Pups for Carnival of Flowers

Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers

One of the major tourism events in our home town starts on the 21st of September. This year marks the 70th anniversary of this popular event. Toowoomba's parks and gardens bloom with masses of colour and the competition of the region's home gardeners is fierce. The carnival parade is held on the afternoon of Saturday … Continue reading Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers

Spring Bluff: pancakes, history and a walk.

Just thought I would do a quick post on one of my favourite local locations, the old Spring Bluff railway station. Just a short drive out of Toowoomba to the scenic railway on the range, its like stepping back in time with the heritage listed station and its magnificent gardens and surrounds. The original station … Continue reading Spring Bluff: pancakes, history and a walk.

I have hardly read a thing these last few months. But one thing I have read and thoroughly enjoyed is Sally Jane Smith's delightful travel memoir Unpacking for Greece . Sally ( @journeysinpages )has awoken my own gypsy soul and made me crave the adventure of travel again and while I might be stuck in one place at the moment, at least I have had the wonderful voyeuristic pleasure of accompanying Sally through those ancient lands and sharing the challenges, fears and joys. A great arm chair travel experience. #Travel #BooksAndTea #Books #Bookstagram
Nearly stepped on this beauty on my way into work this afternoon. At a guess he is a white stemmed gum moth but that is only a guess so if know what he is let me know. Quite large, just wider than a hand width at a guess and rather lovely. #moth #Nature
First bush walk in months. Took the hounds on a walk along the old Munro tramway. I have really needed these brief escapes but all my energy for months has just been going into meeting the everyday demands of life. Really really need to make more time this. #munrotramway #BushWalk
I have not been posting of late but today is National Sorry Day and the recent relentless attacks on one of our most accomplished and celebrated journalists made me feel that today and what it stands for should not go without a post. So in honour of reconciliation I am posting a short stack of some of Stan Grant's rich and remarkable books. Talking to my Country really is a book every Australian should read!
Been in a bit of a rut lately, not really reading much just dipping into the occasional essay. Always take a book everywhere even to Saturday breakfast. Wendell Berry always makes for good company whether it is his essays or the poetry. A writer I can highly reccomend, clarity combined with brevity and beauty. This was actually last weekend breakfast at the Revised cafe at Wyalla plaza, another favourite for weekend breakfast with the hounds, I get an excellent wrap and order extra sausage for the girls. Ada has excellent cafe manners and loves this weekend ritual she knows she will also be getting something special, can't really see Ada in this one but trust me she and Cass are under the table patiently waiting for their breakfast treat.
So Ada does not really like to swim, but Cassie who has gigantic webbed paws loves the water. Cas has no interest in chasing balls whatsoever but she will go out and bring back a ball in the sea for Ada. They can be a frightening team and believe me, they are a team.#RescueDogs #RescueDogsofInstagram #DogsOfInstagram #Dogs #BeachDog
