Spring has sprung for #BookSnapSunday

https://www.instagram.com/p/CFD6KTnA4pc/ It is almost carnival of flowers time here in Toowoomba and spring is definitely in the air the gardens are looking magnificent! I seem to be on a bit of a botany bent at the moment with reading Richard Mabey's The Cabaret of Plants: Botany and the imagination. I would love to go visit … Continue reading Spring has sprung for #BookSnapSunday

Same Park, Different View

Since S and I have had our dog, Ada, we get to walk a lot more. We did this walk in Laurel Bank Park on a day that was cloudy and promising rain. We have had a week of showers and the parks and gardens of Toowoomba are responding to this long overdue largess. Every … Continue reading Same Park, Different View

This week's #BookSnapSunday is a couple of books I managed to finish in February;Bob Brown's delightful memoir Optimism and Amy Liptrot's memoir of recovering from alcoholism, The Outrun. Both books with an emphasis on nature qualify as nature reads and both were great reads. I have huge respect for the idealism and pragmatism of Bob Brown in his fight for the environment we need more leaders like Brown. Liptrot writes beautifully about the Orkney islands although I found myself frustrated by her descent into alcoholism and just wanted her to grow up and stop the destructive behaviour. Simple props for the photo my bush walking boots and my uber cheap snorkelling kit, I particularly enjoyed Liptrot's description of snorkelling in Orkney. #naturereading #naturewriting #memoir #books #bookstargram #bookstagram
#BookSnapSunday This week's book snap is Charles Massey's impressive agricultural call to arms; Call of the Reed Warbler. I am learning more about sustainable agriculture than I ever thought I needed to know. This is a fantastic book and Massey writes beautifully, capturing the wonder and beauty of the natural world while calling on farmers to manage land more sustainably and holistically. A handbook for best farming practice in Australia's demanding environment. #bookstagram #books #naturewriting #naturereading #sustainability
