Lovely relaxed breakfast at the new cafe 63 in Wilsonton, wonderful service, actually think the girls got the best service our delightful waiter was most keen to make sure the girls were comfortable bringing them a water bowl each. They are not small unobtrusive dogs so I am always sensitive to the needs of others when we take them with us. They were beautifully behaved but take up a lot space and there is no escaping the fact they look like they would be more at home on a pig hunt than lounging around a cafe.
Cassie ever the elegant book rest. As part of the Gaia/Nature challenge I am doing a regular feature on nature writing for kids. This month The wonderful @jackie_french_ and her wombat books including The Fire Wombat a beautiful story about how wombats and their borrows provided shelter to other species during the fires. If you are participating in the challenge I am donating a book for every post during the months of January and February to a new children's literacy project here, so make sure you let me know if you post on a nature read for the challenge, all details on the blog. The Fire Wombat is a truly beautiful children's book but all of the wombat books are wonderful, every child should have the privilege of growing up with Jackie French.
Another hectic week but Sat morning chilling with a coffee and the girls at #HornPark. It has been a full on week, short staffing, covid chaos but the weekend is here! Finally a chance to post. Jay Griffiths excellent short collection of essays Why Rebel was my second read for 2022, inspiring reading especially the essay about Extinction Rebellion and the protests, sometimes you just have to say enough is enough. Also grabbed Jackie Frenchs The Secret World of Wombats, for a blog post on nature writing for kids but find myself rereading it, a great read no matter what your age if you want to know about wombats. Check out @jackie_french_ on Instagram for lots of Wombats stories and pics.
Fruitcake coffee and quolls, my first read for 2022 and what a read; an intersectionional examination of the environmental crisis we are living through. The environment is not separate from society just as we are not separate from nature. Philosophical and empowering this is a great short read. Last post of 2021 just some of my favorite nature reads for the year. Best read of the year was David Quammen's Spillover over 500 pages on zoonosis and I raced through it, a really extraordinary book, first published in 2014 but even more compelling in light of what we are living through with covid.

My last read for 2021 Sarah Winman's delightful Still Life, art, life, friendship, bit of a love letter to Forster's Room with a View, a perfect summer read. It is making want to re-read Forster's classic, also a book I love.
